3RRR - aluminum TT protectors

When Nao from 3RRR offered us a couple of his "Bring Rings" to give away at Grand Theft Velo, I attributed his pronunciation to some very bad stereotypes, and referred to them as "Bling Rings" instead. I'm glad to see in one of his recent blog posts that he's even spelling it "B-R-I-N-G" for a little good humored satire. I feel much better now, Nao.
Nao thanks Scorcher Sean Milnes in his post for Sean's use of the Bring Ring during a recent trick session.

If the "Bring Ring" is too much for you, 3RRR's also got a more traditional style available...

There's also some other metal-work afoot, including custom top-tube protectors in collaboration with OPEN Bicycle and Jeff Carvalho from High Snobiety...

Hand-brushed 6061 aluminum. Nao's also done some for Freeman Transport as well as a host of others...

OPEN Bicycle (open), Superbe (open), and Chorus (open)

While their Grand Opening is next Saturday, OPEN Bicycle is officially, um, open. Call it a soft-opening if you will, 'cuz the shit goes off next weekend. As Justin Keena says, "Yeah, Easter Eve, that's how we party."
OPEN's open at the corner of Washington St & Hawkins St, Union Square, Somerville, MA. OPEN will also be the home of the Superbe Design Collaborative and the Chorus Gallery.

The Scorchers are sending a contingent up to Boston, as well as a crew down to Tracklocross, all after berating Eastern Collegiate Cycling Conference racers at the ol' East Rock switchback. Busy, busy day.

Here are some more shots from the OPEN space, all nefariously stolen from their flickr...

Open Bicycle Grand Opening

Our boys in Boston over at Open Bicycle have been unofficially open for almost a week. These guys have been working day and night for months, and to celebrate they're throwing the mother of all grand opening parties. It's going down Saturday April 11th. Here are all the details straight from Zack:
"Saturday looks like this: 10am-7pm - shop grand opening. 7pm - Gallery Opening featuring Justin Keena's photography. 9pm - Open Video Short & Macaframa premiere followed by a party & midnight crit, sprints, trick comp & foot down."
Come out, check out their shop, and congratulate them.

Separated at Birth?

On the left is our Man in Austin, Midnight Ridazz'/Cemetary Cats', Scorcher in exile, Dan Nicely. On the right is Dave, Boston's recycling hatter.
Dave essentially finds great old dress shirts, sport jackets, etc. at thrift shops and uses the vintage fabrics to make new cycling caps.
The OPEN crew brought a bunch down to CT recently, and will be carrying them in their shop, which is due to open (open, get it?) on April 11th. We snatched up a bunch of Dave's caps and they're really well made. The elastic at the back accommodates various sized heads. The brims are short enough to not get in the way, but long enough to still be effective (c'mon you're just going to rock a tilt anyway!). I personally grabbed one made from an old tweed professor jacket which has been keeping my dome toasty warm during this 25 degree Spring we've been having, as well as a dainty paisley one for the missus. Keep an eye out for this kid, as he'll probably be able to quit his day-job soon enough -- the quality of the hat is just that good!

3RRR to sponsor GTV

Last weekend we met Nao from 3RRR at the Friday the 13th Alleycat (Freddie vs. Jason) hosted by Cambridge Bicycle. Nao's been fabricating some killer chainrings and other metal miscellany...

We're psyched to have Nao and 3RRR on board for Grand Theft Velo 3

It's the Final Countdown

Our boys in Boston the OPEN bicycle crew have posted the first in a series of short videos to promote their shop's upcoming grand opening. The Scorchers will definitely be there on opening day.

Geekhouse -- new fork?

The Boston Crew is hard at work during this epic of New England winters. Just look at what the Geekhouse crew has whipped up...

"Ride local, buy local," says OPEN.

Still trying to figure out if that's a new GH fork, or just something added to the rockcity...

Marty's definitely making some products worth "geeking-out" on.

World Domination, part six: Boston

OPEN Bicycle broke the news in a recent blog post...

"The New Haven Scorchers have built a solid reputation in the cycling community over the past few years. Over the past few months, the streets of Boston have seen a lot of these guys - now expect to see even more as they have officially established a Boston Scorchers chapter. The decision was made during the events of Pony Up a few weeks back, with the appointment of the first two members."

Boston's got quite a scene going, so it's only natural to extend our reach into their City. We've mentioned OPEN Bicycle enough, but check out DJ Brek One Supreme, DoYouKnowClarence?, Justin Keena Photography, and Boston Fixed (forums) for just a sampling of what they've got going on.
Besides being a rad group of bicycle debaucherists (yes, it is a word), they bring a lot to the table...

they got shops

they got frame builders

they got an mp3 blog

They're running their own Boldsprints regularly, as well as throwing some insane races in a city not known for it's, um, cyclability.

I won't bore you with the gritty details of the ordination ceremony involving the Secret Order of Pierre Lallement, men in cloaks, a windowless room, or the "sword of truth".

Welcome, Boston!

Next up? Scorchers London.

OPEN Bicycle on board for 2009 series

We're pleased to announce OPEN Bicycle as one of the sponsors for this summer's events. OPEN is a Boston shop comprised of fellow bike-debaucherizers. Looks like we'll have to up the beer budget.

Ponied Up! pt.2

the Dark Angel split his eye open and still finished in the top 10. scorchers uva and haus had the opportunity to ride with him during the original Rt. 1 Stage Race a few years back.

Justin Keena's got some pix from last weekend's Pony Up! Bitches alleycat in Boston. Check them out over at OPEN Bicycle, then hit his blog.

Ponied Up!

Scorchers CT Drew, Kanye Nuge, and Uva went up to Boston over the weekend to support the OPEN Bicycle cats and the Boston Bicycle Messenger Association's fund-raising for the 2009 NACCC's in Boston.

The race has a great format. You pay to enter. Your name goes on "the board". Other racers, non-racers, fat-old dudes from New Haven all get the opportunity to approach the board and place bets on the winner. The winner and the winning bets are paid out based on the cash received.

The Board

bets are placed

local Craig Roth was a favorite to win

Last years winner, Lucas Brunelle, known for his helmet-cam videos, ended up not showing, throwing the betting into a furious frenzy. Croth's domination seemed imminent. Until...

...Austin Horse showed up.

Austin rides for King Kog and Red Bull. He had a rusted-out beater of a bicycle, that he proceeded to place sponsor stickers on. Drew, the Nuge, and myself each ran to the board and threw an extra $10 on...

...taking in a "hundo" each when he won.

the dark horse coming in for the win -- that's my gas money!!!

It seems New Haven is not alone in having random New Yorkers show up to steal the win. Among the prizes were a Pake frame for the gals and a sweet bag...

pic stolen from madd fajita - get the rest here.

The race HQ was an old casket factory north of Boston proper. Apparently the space used to house an old bondage dungeon. Yep, you read that right. Besides the "sexual maroon" carpeted room and the occasional hanging chain, were some other fun relics...

also from madd fajita.

Kanye Nuge gets his checkpoint smoke on

the roads were treacherous. i saw 3 ice packs and Kevin "Dark Angel" Porter's busted eye

Great time. Thanks, Boston! Oh, and now I can finally say, Yes, I know Clarence.

Pony Up!

This Saturday in Boston.
More info at OPEN or BBMA.

Somebody referred to Scorchers.TK as "Drew and Dan's Diary" today, so I'll have you know they plan on staying the night -- guess neither could figure out who was the designated driver...

Boldsprints, Boston

We mentioned yesterday that the OPEN Bicycle crew are hosting another Boldsprints event. Now we hear through the grapevine (Euphoria Before Total Implosion) that the main prize for the event is a sweet set of Deep V's laced to Formula. Top that off with the fact that they're in Yoda's DeBernardi Gold (yes, that's an actual color). Add yet to that the fact that I'm currently snowed in with nothing to do and you get a guy setting his bike up 53/14 with delusions of grandeur...

Yoda's DeBernardi. Hard to start. Impossible to stop.

The BostonFixed.us Forums are reporting that out-of-towners will be generously compensated (hopefully with that wheelset).

Boston

The Scorchers got coverage up in Boston. Check it!:

Was CT Drew impersonating Matt? Or is it that guy behind Nick? (sorry Drew!) Which one of you inked up the deal for getting shirts in their store in the spring?:
"Good looks fellas, we’ll have Ghostship tee’s for sale in the shop come spring!"

I love you guys! My team reps the hardest!
