Tyrant's Best of 2008

Tyrant has posted a best of 2008 series over on his flickr. It's worth the visit.

Dougy Fresh. Lost in India.

Doug's made it over to India in advance of the India Stage Race in Sikkim at the base of the Himalayas (what, you thought Scorchers just rode to the bar?). While he seems to be semi-homeless and roaming the streets of Bagdogra at all hour of the evening, he seems to be in good spirits.

You can follow him at his blog as well as via his twitter.

Doug also rides for Ghostship, Vicious Cycles, High Gear Cyclery, Pisgah Works, and a host of others that can be found on his blog.

More from Nike...

On top of their upcoming line of shoes targeted at fixed gear kids, Nike has dropped a preview of some other cycling apparel coming this summer. This rain jacket looks promising and word is that it is extremely lightweight and packs small so you can keep in in your bag for the random rain showers.
I'm still weary of Nike's labor practices and they definitely didn't do much to win me over with their unauthorized reappropriation of a certain anti-consumerist hardcore band's artwork, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to find some more info on this jacket. You can find more pictures of the collection over at Hypebeast

End Times?

It feels pretty bad when you find cycling caps at Urban Outfitters. But now it seems Nike has co-opted the fixed gear culture with a redesign of their Air Tiempo indoor soccer shoe aimed at fixed riding. Co-opted culture, or just another piece of gear for your cycling kit? You decide.

Haven, not so Scorched

Just watch to the end. Jake Lineberry is my new hero. Freestyle walking is the shizzle!
I swear there were Scorchers in attendance. Nobody made the video. Esh.

Plexiglass Wallrides!

Tony Tyrant's peeps have set up a plexiglass wall for wallrides in their backyard. This satisfies every bit of my nerd-dom to new levels. Check out his blog or the "Tiny Tyrant Backyard Photoset" on Flickr.
Tony's also the guy behind the Stratford BMX Jam on the 28th.
To support these backyard terrorists, head over to the Tyrant Store and pick up his new shirt...

Velocity Plus Son

Not to be outdone Velocity is getting ready to drop new rims that will be 1mm deeper than H Plus Son's Formation Face and SL42 rims.

The lowdown from Velocity's President John Black:

"If all goes as planned, they should be readily available this spring....I hope. It is called the B43, because it is 43mm tall, making it 1mm taller than our very worthy and formidable competition. We were thinking of calling it the Brisbane 43, but decided that was too much so we shortened it to the B43. Then we discovered that was a nuke that was in the US arsenal, so I guess the name has a bit of a dual meaning."

Hey Laaadieees!

We're stoked to have Harlot Wear as a sponsor for the Scorcher's Summer Series! Jennifer and her crew craft some sick clothing designs that are technically based around riding and aesthetically based on something that women actually want to wear! "Finally, cycling apparel and activewear for the rest of us. No shiny lycra, no bulky pads. No pink butterflies,no neon anything. Just simple lines & style that let you get on with your sport." Word. Now can you start making similar stuff for dudes?...Oh yeah, they've got that covered too!

Phil Wood Bling

For their 38th anniversary Phil Wood is offering 5 sets of gold plated hubs (yes real gold no anodization or powder coating). Besides the obvious unique cutouts these hubs have larger than normal 3.5 inch flanges. With a hefty price tag of 575 dollars who will buy these? Perhaps Kanye or Pharrell need some bling on their BMWs.

Start 'Em Young!

Check out this dope little fixed gear one of our mechanics serviced today:

It's got that cruiser-riser-bar steez too...10" pneumatic wheels, whaaat!?

All City Track Frame

All City's prototype track frame. A lot of attention to detail here make sure to check their site for more details and bigger pictures.

Shop 14 Bike Co.

Another bike built for the street by the recently opened Shop 14 Bike Co. in London. It's a welcome relief that the frames and complete bikes that have been coming out recently (see previous blog) don't focus on NJS and anodized color coordination.
